Lingually Displaced Canines
We recently had this gorgeous 10 week old puppy brought into the practice for a puppy health check. It was noted that his lower canine was lingually displaced (erupting closer to the tongue than it should) meaning that it was impinging on its hard palate.
The treatment choice was to remove the deciduous (puppy) canine to stop further pain and trauma to the palate. It is a delicate procedure as we try not to damage the adult tooth erupting underneath.
However, this lovely boy made a full and speedy recovery and we will be keeping a close eye on him to ensure that the adult tooth erupts normally. If it doesn't we have a few treatment options, primarily, ball therapy or tooth removal.
If you have just brought home a new furry bundle of joy get in touch with the practice today to book in for their vaccines (if required) or a health check so that they can have a full clinical examination with one of our vet team.
